HOW MOTION DETECTOR WIRELESS WORK

Motion detectors are small electronic eyes that detect infrared waves—heat waves that radiate from moving objects. When the detector senses an object moving across its field of view—especially warmer objects such as people, animals and cars—it electronically turns on the lights.

The light stays on anywhere from 1 to 20 minutes, depending on how you preset the timer. Then the detector automatically shuts the light off unless it continues to sense movement. A photocell deactivates the light during daylight hours. A motion sensor light has a semicircular field of view of up to 240 degrees and a distance range, adjustable on most detectors, that extends to 70 ft. or more. Motion sensor lights will react to the movement of your dog, an approaching person, a passing car or sometimes even wind-blown leaves.

Nuisance “trips,” such as blowing leaves or a passing car, can fool the detector and turn the lights on when you don’t want them. These can be annoying to both you and your neighbors, and in fact, some homeowners won’t install motion detector lights for this reason. However, you can solve most unwanted switching-on by adjusting the distance-range setting and by carefully aiming the sensor to limit its field of view. You can also narrow the field of view even more by applying tape to the sensor, as shown in Photo 7. If nuisance trips concern you, be sure to buy a light that has an adjustable distance/range setting, and an amiable detector unit as shown in Fig. A, Nos. 1 and 3.

Motion sensor camera allow you to operate the light in the conventional, manual way, usually by flipping the motion sensor light switch off for a second, then back on. This allows you to keep the light on at night when you want to, even when there’s no motion. By double flipping a second time, you return to automatic.

HOW WIRELESS MOTION DETECTION CAMERAS WORK

Monitoring your data centers and building access points with CCD cameras can represent a boon to your overall security, but you need to know a little about camera terminology to make the best use of them. Don’t think about “aim and shoot” when you think about these cameras. Think, instead, about how you might go about detecting motion in a series of still images.

First off, let’s examine the term “CCD”. This stands for “charge-coupled device”. A CCD is a silicon chip with a surface that is divided into light-sensitive pixels. When light hits these pixels, tiny electric charges are generated. With enough of these pixels, you can get a fairly high resolution image. With adequate “sensitivity” (a term to be defined further down in this article), you can detect motion even in a dimply lit room. MOTION DETECTOR WIRELESS CAMERA MIAMI BEACH CORAL GABLES

Initially designed as a memory device, CCD became a good choice for image sensing because of its ultra sensitivity to light. Astronomers used the technology because it was as much as 100 times as sensitive as film and allowed previously invisible objects to be viewed. MOTION DETECTOR WIRELESS CAMERA MIAMI BEACH CORAL GABLES

Digital cameras can use CCD or CMOS (complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor) circuitry. However, CCD produces higher quality images. Thus, security cameras generally use CCD technology.

The difference between digital cameras and security cameras is in their basic way of working. Digital cameras store images when you tell them to. Security cameras only provide images (save and transmit them) when they detect motion. And motion detection is basically the process of comparing sequential images and determining whether the differences between them represent motion. If there are significant differences between two consecutive images, the cameras “conclude” that there has been motion within the camera view. They do this based on a couple important settings — sensitivity and percentage.

Most, if not all, surveillance cameras will give you the option of selecting a particular area within the viewing screen to be monitored. In other words, you can say that you only want to detect motion in one area — say the door or window.

There are two types of image changes that can occur. We can have an overall change in the pixels as we would if the lights in the room went on or off. If the room has windows through which incoming light will enter, you probably don’t want to generate motion detection photos just because the sun is setting. So, you can select a “sensitivity” setting that provides a contrast setting and determines how much of a change should be reported.

You can also select how much of a change in your overall viewing area or within one or more sub-areas of interest represent motion. Maybe you want to detect a man-sized change — something that affects 50% of the pixels in an area of interest, but you don’t want to respond to a mouse running across the floor.

Setting the sensitivity and percentage settings on cameras in your data center or office space can be time-consuming. After all, you want to know when something or someone is moving through your space, but you probably don’t want 300 images every time someone walks through the door.

Similarly, you probably don’t want to be looking through shots of your office space every time a light goes on or off or a fan blows the drapes. Generating too many images can be as bad as generating too few because people will stop looking at them. Setting up your cameras to detect what you want to know about and nothing else is nearly impossible, but you can probably strike a balance that has you looking through mostly at things that matter and only half or a quarter as many “false positives”.

A motion sensitive security camera refers to the camera that can send you notifications when motion is detected within its viewing angle. Technically, there are two types of mainstream outdoor camera with motion detection on the market. The difference lies in the way they detect moving objects:

APP RECEIVED NOTIFICATION FROM MOTION SENSITIVE CAMERA

Software-based motion detection: It compares the current image with a reference image and simply counts the number of different pixels. This type supports basic motion detection and it can cause false alarms since images will naturally differ due to factors such as varying lighting, camera flicker, and CCD dark currents.

PIR sensor-based motion detection: The sensor can distinguish different objects by their varied temperature which produces different levels of infrared radiation. When a warm body passes by, the change pulses can be detected. It is pet-friendly, and you will only receive alerts when real danger occurs.

Obviously, the PIR sensor-based outdoor camera is superior to the software-based ones. While, the soft-ware based cameras can greatly improve their detection accuracy by setting up motion detection sensitivity. You can define different motion sensitivity values for different periods of time, and each period’s starting and ending time can be adjusted to best match the changing lighting conditions in your location. Also, you are free to choose specific motion detection area to make the alarms more accurate.

Taking other features you may demand into consideration, there are several outdoor security cameras you can opt for.

Wireless Outdoor Motion Activated Camera

Wires are always big headache for most camera users especially when the camera is going to be placed outside your apartment. If you want to have an easy and quick installation, the wireless camera is definitely better. Here is a point you should know: the wireless security camera is not 100% wire free, you still need one cable for power.

If you are going for the Wi-Fi motion sensitive camera for outdoor, here are some additional tips for you:

Install the wireless outdoor camera within the area of Wi-Fi network.

Choose the dual-band Wi-Fi security cameras to avoid signal loss if possible.

Change the initial password as early as possible and use a relatively complex one to reduce the risk of being hacked.

Here is another option just as convenient as the wireless camera: a PoE (Power over Ethernet) outdoor security camera with motion sensor. This type of hard-wired camera also needs only a single network cable for both video and power transmission.

WHERE TO PUT WIRELESS OUTDOOR CAMERA MOTION DETECTOR MIAMI BEACH CORAL GABLES

For best effectiveness, position a motion sensor light to cover the walks leading to your front and back doors and the driveway (see lead illustration). That way the lights will come on when you come home at night. You can also use them to light up decks, patios and any potentially hazardous locations such as around stairways and swimming pools.

HOW TO INSTALL OUTDOOR MOTION DETECTOR CAMERA

Motion detector camera are easy to install, but each brand has a few different details, so read the instructions. You’ll find the basic information printed on the outside of the box. Read the box before you buy the unit so you know what you’re getting. You’ll find more detailed instructions inside the box.

Our step-by-step photos and tips from our experts provide a general guide of how to do the job. In most cases, you’ll simply replace an existing fixture with the new one, as our photos show. Make sure to turn off the power to the fixture at the main panel before removing it.

However, if you have to run a new electrical line and install a switch, the job can get much more complex. Outdoor electrical lines must be encased in approved conduit and weatherproof electrical boxes. If you’re not familiar with conduit or the rules for running new electrical circuits, call in a licensed electrician. MOTION DETECTOR WIRELESS CAMERA MIAMI BEACH CORAL GABLES

Working with old electrical boxes can be tricky too. Sometimes they don’t contain a ground wire (bare wire or one with green insulation) or other grounding means such as metal conduit. The National Electrical Code requires all electrical boxes and fixtures to be grounded. If you’re not sure yours is, check with your electrical inspector to determine if you have to run a new ground wire. MOTION DETECTOR WIRELESS CAMERA MIAMI BEACH CORAL GABLES
